One of the hardest parts of beating a substance abuse problem is coming to grips with the fact that one is suffering from a problem at all. Substance abuse is a unique form of illness because it rewires the brain, causing the sufferer to lose insight into their own condition. This means that, unfortunately, many substance abusers will have to first hit what’s referred to as rock bottom before they can finally see the extent to which drugs or alcohol are adversely affecting their lives. Some may be able to be reached before that point, through family interventions or through other means. But there is no question: admitting that there is a problem at all is the first step.
Luckily, in this day and age, once the step of realizing that a problem exists has been taken, there are highly effective means of treating substance abuse. Our drug rehab centers combine the most effective elements of many different treatment protocols. As an evidence-based addiction recovery program, our clients can be certain that they will have the highest possible chance of defeating their addictions and remaining drug and alcohol free.
Our addiction recovery process
Once the client has entered our substance abuse treatment facility, the first step is detoxification. The purpose of detoxification is not only to rid the client’s body of all traces of their drug of abuse but also to ensure that any withdrawal symptoms and acute craving episodes are behind the client when they enter the community interaction phase. Studies have conclusively shown that people who do not undergo complete detoxification have a low chance of remaining sober, no matter what the treatment protocol is.
Our drug detox clinic is staffed by trained professionals. Every detox is different, with some clients needing little more than a few hours. Others, such as those who may be physically dependent, may require intensive monitoring and active care from our expert staff. No matter what the client’s detox entails, our qualified staff is entirely capable of safely transitioning the client to a drug free state.
Once the client has undergone a thorough detoxification, the next step is a mental evaluation. This takes the form of an interview and a client mental health history. It must be done under conditions of total sobriety, as intoxication of any kind may closely mimic a variety of mental illness symptoms. This process of identifying any co-occurring mental illnesses with the addiction itself is referred to as dual diagnosis.
Over the last decade, dual diagnosis has been increasingly recognized as a crucial aspect in the treatment of substance abusers. Studies have concluded that up to half of those suffering from addiction may have co-occurring mental health conditions that are either affecting or driving the substance abuse problem. This has important implications for how the course of treatment for these clients should be best designed. Many substance abusers who are also suffering from a separate mental condition use drugs and alcohol primarily as a means of self-medication.
Once the mental health screening is complete, the client will move into the community area of the addiction recovery center. Our addiction recovery facility is designed around the idea of community-based treatment. The addiction treatment center is therefore reliant on the client interacting not just with staff but with other clients as well. Through community involvement, all clients in the addiction treatment facility can forge a strong sense of communal purpose.
Our drug rehab facility will also be a place where the client feels entirely at ease. Many of our staff have themselves struggled with and overcome addiction. This gives them a level of empathy with the clients that may be lacking in other treatment programs.
